Houseboat Inorganic Hybrid Algae-Resistant & Weather Coating

In Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian markets, building facades are exposed to high temperatures, high humidity, heavy rainfall and persistent algae risk. An exterior coating must therefore deliver more than weather resistance: it must also provide alkali resistance, water resistance, scrub durability and long-term algae-inhibiting performance.

HOUSEBOAT HBSS345-AR has been tested by TÜV SÜD PSB against Singapore Standard SS345:2021.

Through mineral cross-linking, the coating penetrates and seals micropores in cement-based substrates, forming a dense protective film. It combines alkali resistance, water resistance, scrub durability, 1000-hour accelerated weathering resistance, algae-inhibiting performance, low VOC, high opacity and favourable application levelling for new-build and facade-renovation projects in hot and humid Southeast Asian environments.

Inorganic Hybrid Formula for Dense Facade Protection

Acrylic-silicate hybrid resin penetrates cement-based substrates and undergoes mineral cross-linking to form a dense protective film. This helps seal substrate micropores and improves resistance to alkaline conditions, water exposure and outdoor weathering.

With proper substrate preparation and application, the coating is designed to reduce the risk of blistering, lifting and visible discoloration.

Durable Algae Resistance for Tropical Facades

The coating has been validated by TÜV testing against the algae-resistance requirements of SS345 Annex A. Under the specified test conditions, no algae growth was observed on the coated film.

The silicate mineral carrier helps retain the algae-inhibiting components within the coating system. This makes HBSS345-AR suitable for facade applications in hot, humid, rainy and algae-prone Southeast Asian environments.

Actual algae resistance depends on substrate condition, surrounding vegetation, sunlight exposure, drainage, contamination, humidity and application quality.

1000-Hour Accelerated Weathering Resistance

The coating passes a 1000-hour xenon-arc accelerated weathering test. Under the specified test conditions, the film showed no cracking, blistering, chalking or significant fading deterioration.

The inorganic hybrid system supports coating stability and colour retention for exterior facades exposed to sunlight, rainfall and humid outdoor conditions.

Scrub and Abrasion Resistance

Measured film loss was only 3.7 μm after 200 wet-scrub cycles, well below the SS345 limit of 10 μm.

The dense mineral surface helps withstand rain erosion, dust accumulation and routine cleaning, reducing the risk of substrate exposure, gloss loss and coating wear.

Low VOC and Non-Detectable Listed Hazardous Substances

Measured VOC was only 11.1 g/L, significantly below the SS345 maximum limit of 75 g/L.

According to the stated product test data, heavy metals, halogenated solvents, aromatic solvents, formaldehyde and APEO were not detected. The product is positioned to meet relevant Singapore NEA regulatory and Green Mark material criteria.

Final compliance should be confirmed against the issued test reports, certified product scope, applicable version and project-specific requirements.

High Opacity and Excellent Workability

Opacity reaches 85.5%, exceeding the SS345 minimum requirement of 75%, supporting uniform colour development and substrate coverage.

The coating offers favourable levelling for brush and roller application, with reduced brush and roller marks and a low tendency for pinholes or particle defects.

The laboratory test data indicates a hard-dry time of approximately 0.19 hour. For site application, the practical hard-dry time and recoating interval must follow the official technical data sheet and actual environmental conditions.

Recommended total dry-film thickness: not less than 120 μm.

Apply at an ambient temperature between 5°C and 35°C with relative humidity below 85%. Suitable methods include brush, roller and airless spray application.

The recommended system is one primer coat followed by two topcoats. Reference values are approximately 0.5 hour to surface dry, 4 hours to hard dry and 4 hours between coats.

Actual drying time depends on temperature, humidity, ventilation, substrate absorption and coating thickness.
